Global Focus: Scotland

While government interest in social enterprise in England has stagnated, Scotland’s ministers have championed the sector at the highest level for more than a decade. Scotland now contains 5,600 social enterprises, bringing in revenue of £3.8bn. A third of these have sprung up in the past 10 years. Gerry Higgins, CEO of Community Enterprise in Scotland and founder of the Social Enterprise World Forum, and Jess Gildener, marketing and communications manager at the Social Enterprise Academy, explore the growth of Scotland’s social enterprise movement past, present and future.
