If you took some of the UK’s leading women in social enterprise and put them around a dinner table, what would they talk about? For the first in our WISE conversations series in Edinburgh, we found out.
For the first in our WISE conversations series, we headed to Edinburgh for a dinner hosted by the Royal Bank of Scotland on 17 September.
Taking place just after the Social Enterprise World Forum 2018, around the table were leaders from social enterprises including Acumen CIC, Mydex CIC, Scottish Enterprise and The Melting Pot.
Led by Kate Welch CEO at Acumen CIC, the evening started with a provocation focused on inclusive growth – when economic growth is distributed fairly across society to create opportunities for all. She described the inequalities in opportunity across the UK, and proposed that women in social enterprise could lead the way in tackling them.
"What are we going to do to drive massive social change with women leading the way?"
Women often lead, she said "in a way that's about the whole and the greater good," and went on to ask, "so what are we going to do to drive massive social change with women leading the way?"
As well as Scottish hospitality which filled bellies at the dinner table, Welch's words gave the guests much food for thought.
Listen for yourself!
