Small Talks: "Capital alone will not address poverty, climate and social justice"

Amit Bhatia, CEO of the Global Steering Group for Impact Investment (GSG) and the British Council’s Dr Mairi Mackay were both keynote speakers at Good Deals and Beyond Good Business, the UK’s leading social enterprise conference, which took place earlier this year

In the first of our Small Talks collection, the film captures highlights of Amit Bhatia and Dr Mairi Mackay's discussion with Pioneers Post's Julie Pybus.

Among a wider discussion around current global impact movements, Dr Mackay explains the aims of the British Council's new Developing Creative and Inclusive Economies (DICE) programme, which, by supporting creative and social enterprises around the world, hopes to "create a way for us to put people right back of the heart" of our economies.

While Bhatia says: “Our excitement stems from the fact that it is not just incremental capital alone that will address poverty, social justice and climate change." But that it’s about “changing the framework and how economies work."
